The world is a many-layered thing and Matt Wood is looking for the thin spots. He presses and scrapes glazes of paint over stacked veneers of plywood sheets in an attempt to reveal a rise or a writhe of the things behind the things in front. With hawk and trowel he tailors his process to encourage accidents and unintended effects - the goal being to paint a thing without painting it on purpose, to catch the submerged off-guard. We are not alone here; the veil roils with the war behind it: a wing, a ruin, a curse, a prayer.
