Instructor Bio
Originally trained as a biologist Claire Mercer moved to Belleville in 2004 where she became a part of the local art scene.
Since completing the Central Technical School’s art program in 2013 Claire has been a practising artist, with a particular focus on stone carving. Over the course of her practice, Claire has developed a fondness for alabaster because of the translucent quality inherent in this particular stone.
She is currently working on a series called Durable Fragility, which explores the beauty of our internal organs.
She has exhibited her work in The Workman Arts Being Scene Show and Show Gallery.
In 2018 she taught a stone carving course at ArtHeart in the Regent Park area. This immensely positive experience has led Claire to continue to create teaching possibilities so that she may inspire and nurture others in their artist pursuits.
