ETHEL SHOUL
From the age of nine, when I joined a drawing class with other children of the same age, my eyes were opened to the beauty of the body and the differences of character of the models we had to draw.
These basic lessons instilled in me the facility of watching the individuals and groups who walked, paraded, or were placed as mannequins in shop windows in different circumstances and conditions, in countries as varied as India, South Africa, Canada and the United Kingdom.
My instruments of recording the world ranged from a point-and shoot camera to pens, pencils, paint brushes and collage … whatever were available and appropriate to capture the moment.
