Realm is about a space and a place that exists, in the in-between of life and death. As above, so below. The place where essence exists, dream time, where love is a seed, and where imagination reigns. Click here for full artist statement

Artist Statement continued..
The photographic artifacts in this series are of unknown strangers, and places lost to circumstances of mystery. Over the course of the last century, these objects have moved through time and found their way to my hand. An analogue photograph is a unique object because it represents a moment in time, and is also a physical object that travels through time, it begins as something new and loved and as it ages becomes decayed, torn, and abandoned. There is an unknown story in every piece. Embroidery is a slow, gentle and precise craft. Each image in this series was hand-embroidered with vintage and modern threads.
These intimate works were created during the pandemic of 2020-2021 and I was drawing on the themes of grief and transformation that have permeated this time. We are living in a space of transition in the midst of multiple crises, and traumatic events of the past and the present; while Realm does not speak to the specifics of any one of them, it does offer the possibility for healing and transformation metaphorically that is arising for all of us collectively and personally.
In my process, I see what I do as a kind of spell work ritualized with needle and thread. And like when a witch gathers her ingredients, and an intuitive perceives her remedies, I draw upon the inspiration of botanical drawings, sacred geometry and alchemical process to offer a corresponding remedy to heal. A medicine to help us grieve. To bring us repair.
I pierce. I mend. I embroider. I narrate. I draw down. I transform.
My hope is that each piece offers a resonant, fragment of healing to both the perceiver of this object, and the ancestral stranger within.
